You what’s actually making no sense to me is how they were so sure of getting rid of any divergent they see but after the box they started looking for divergent?? 👁️👄👁️ what if the pure divergent were killed. Wouldnt they have no one to open the box andd great!! I like how nobody out of all the millions of people in there and not a single of them even curious about whats outside the wall until the message from the box lol

And the third sequel after they finally showed us what the outside world actually look like…they look like an alien apocalypse or like they were landed on a wrong planet 😂😂😂 Why would they showed us green forest when they got on the wall then suddenly just decides to turn everything red including the bloody rain 😂😭

colleen targets her damaging books to younger audiences. these books were in my high school's library, i was recommended november 9 at age 13, these books should come with a warning!!! thank you for pointing this out omg. i hate to see young people reading her books, being exposed to this type of content and persuading them into thinking these scenarios (such as the SA in nov 9) is part of a loving relationship. it makes me so sad truly

I have problems with the term “romanticism of abuse” because of how it gets thrown around and watered down in fandom, but that’s ultimately what her books feature as a consequence of poor writing. Her writing style is not condusive to the emotional impact she’s going for; she cares more about writing the sex and expressing desire than she does bringing into question what that desire is based on. a lot of things in her writing are told, not shown, which is how a scene that is (presumably) meant to be about a character’s indecision and reluctance towards sex becomes assault. what happens as a consequence of this is that her writing comes off as treating the subject matter as far more simple than it is. you do not get the feeling that these characters care about each other, you know they want to have sex and that their feelings are complicated but you couldn’t pinpoint where that complication is happening or what they’re feeling beyond a surface level. you have to make leaps in logic to justify a character’s actions and agency; a good story doesn’t force those kinds of leaps. edit: i also don’t want to make the argument that this kind of writing hurts young influential readers, because teenagers aren’t the target audience of her books. they’re not YA, they’re adult, and adult audiences should be trusted in realizing not to replicate what they see in fiction. what IS a problem is when these kinds of tropes are repeatedly written and left uncritiqued. booktok has a serious problem of being unable to accept critique or do full analysis, which ties back in to overconsumption and reading being treated as a mindless hobby when it should engage your mind. yes, sometimes you just want a hallmark movie type book that’s easy to consume and react to, but that’s ALL colleen hoover fans seem to be consuming and that’s an issue when her books are marketed uncritically as romance. people want serious drama in their romantic stories, but when that drama comes off as abuse due to a flat writing style and it’s accepted uncritically it gets concerning

Listen there's a lot of people who find the kinds of relationships in these books sexy, I'm not going to bash those elements. Problems come in when the writer doesn't seem to recognise that the things they're writing ARE romanticised depictions of abuse and other awful things. And also the bullshit to do with burn survivors, beauty standards, sexuality etc etc

I havent finished watching this video but thank you for doing an honest review of the series because there's so many people who blatantly hate on it and speak of it altho they have barely enough knowledge. All those other YT's haven't read the book so how can they criticise? Movies don't always do the books justice. I cant say much cause I've only seen the movie BUT I loved them and was considering reading the book until I saw videos of ppl hating on it. It's not criminal to get inspiration from The Hunger Games, I mean, cmon it's an intelligent and well-loved book series so why not draw inspo (as you should) and to say it's a blatant copy is not fair on the Author of Divergent as I think the idea of genetic manipulation affecting the world around us a brilliant idea (she crafts it well at the start). I think it carries very interesting concepts and messages different to the Hunger Games, only that the Author lacked more depth and In a way...so much happened yet nothing happened (at least as far as my knowledge goes). Its hard to explain it but I can't tell if they're trying to conclude that we cant be all selfless without being selfish (the importance of balance) or if they mean to say that we must demand ourselves to be more than we are even when we're not??? anyway I don't believe in genetic manipulation so it makes no sense. Anywho...it had potential but the author failed to think it through

I actually like the ending when I read it at 14, mainly because I was like: ohhh this author is brave enough to make us hater her. But also there's a really nice comment a bit below if you sort by recent, on how it's the truest ending for Tris. Movies were meant to failed the moment they had actors who would played as lovers in another movie, be siblings in this one 😭 Specially knowing no matter Divergent came out first (like 2 months), you cannot compete with John Green's first movie adaptation.

I've never read any Colleen Hover books but I have scrolled through booktok a little bit and tbh - i don't understand at all... I see so many people on booktok reading books with 8million TW and still falling in love with the problematic guy - even with things like SA, DV, etc... Am I missing what the difference is? I don't really read romance, but is it that she is trying to pass it as normal that's the issue? Yes, I watched an entire 40min vid where someone i don't know talks about someone's book career who i also don't know lmao.

I liked the book because it didn't follow what the movie did, where it was kinda "good guy turned bad," in the books he was psychotic.
